This was an old trading post for the Native Peoples before colonization began. The People had heard of the Spanish and their desire for gold and silver, and had prior knowledge that the Spaniards would soon be arriving. It was decided that the best course, was to tell the Spanish that there was no gold at the trading post, but to the North, along the plains, were a People who also loved gold and silver. They told the Spanish to ride North, and seek a People who call themselves the Comanche. It was almost a century before another Spaniard returned to the trading post.
