Christopher Babb, it's not easy with binoculars the first time, and it's almost impossible without them. Once you've seen it, it is easier to find.
Best time is between 915 and 1015 PM, best place is a north, preferably a nw facing beach like first landing, although we saw it from the Greek Orthodox parking lot with binoculars, but darker is better.
Pic 1 is what it looks like at around 9PM. Pic 2 is about how far to the right of the setting sun to look.
Beat way, find the very bottom left hand star of the big dipper's bowl, then track straight down to the horizon. The comet is about half way. You are looking for a blur of light, it turns into a comet as your eyes learn how to see it. Listening to people declare, "there it is!!" is sort of like listening to people watching a magic trick.
