As I begin hour 15 of this project, it occurs to me that for the low, low price of $130 shipped, I'd have been done by now. Instead, I'm making a template to drill new mounting holes in the old mounting plate while pondering whether I'm broken and just blissfully unaware of the fact. To be honest, a good portion of that time was spent learning about stepper motors and gear reduction vs amp draw and torque. Then trying to find someone who had already dismantled my particular mount so I could get a tooth count in order to calculate the gear reduction ratio for the motor driver circuit. My 50 year old brain is not happy trying to parse this new info dump, but I suspect it's good for me.
